On June 30th 2007 we cycled the length of the Leeds Liverpool canal in one day. This blog has been set up to record the ride for those who took part. It is also here to use as a source of reference for those who may wish to take on the challenge in the future...Team Aldi

Well done for doing it all in one day guys!! A few friends and I just did it in two days starting in Leeds and it was a grueller. Great site - very helpful.

Hi all, myself and 3 others completed the ride yesterday having set off at the un-godly hour of 5am in Liverpool we finished at 9.30. It sounds like our weather was comparable to yours and for that you have my deepest sympathy!
We've got to thank you for the blog - really great site and it helped us no end in our preparation for the challenge ahead.

Last Sept two of us decided we would do this in a day for charity. We now number 40-50. The Railway riders go in May. Some over 1 day, some over two days and some half distance. We are riding for Martens childrens hospice (Leeds) and Alderhay childrens hospital (Liverpool). Your blog has been invaluable so far,and has been the subject of much discussion during our meetings. If your ever passing the Railway pub on the canal, Rodley, Leeds pop in and ask for Geordie Kev or Matt for a warm welcome. Thanks again.

As happens with tough challenges a few fell away during the build up but we managed to get 20+ over two days, and 8 of us did it in 1 day.My own time was 19hrs due to a dodgy knee, but most averaged between 14-16 hours. The weather was great and we raised over £8,000. Its an experince you must try. Thanks again for the great info/blog. Kev.
Excellent site. Me and a mate did this over 2 days last weekend and couldn't have done it without this site. I'm Planning on doing my own blog documenting the journey but this site should be everyone's first stop if they are planning on cycling the canal.

ReplyDeleteI finally got round to doing it last Friday (May 4th 2012). We caught a taxi to the start line from Leeds, and set off from Liverpool just before 6.
Had a nice 45 minute stop in Foulridge (great cafe there btw), and made it back to Leeds in time for a pint just before 8.
The day was challenging enough on a good quality tow path, so great effort doing it on a rainy day!
